The concept of resilience offers a holistic approach for understanding and managing complex island systems, and problems such as climate change. In this talk, Paul and Nadine Marshall discuss how the concept of resilience can be applied to real-world settings through examining its functional opposite, vulnerability. Through recognizing the links between ecological and social vulnerability, we can gain insight into the needs, aspirations, and dependencies of people, and integrate those into decisions we make about natural resource management and adaptation planning.
