Caribbean Protected Area Management Effectiveness – Jamaica, 2025
In July 2025, 23 marine managers and practitioners from Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, and the US Virgin Islands participated in the Caribbean Protected Area Management Effectiveness (PAME) Workshop.
This four-day training focused on:
- Using PAME assessments and monitoring data to evaluate progress toward site outcomes
- Identifying strategic actions to adapt management practices
- Pinpointing monitoring gaps and developing new indicators to track progress toward both management actions and social and ecological outcomes
- Strengthening capacity to implement regular review and adaptive management schedules that allow for adjustments to management approaches and improved effectiveness
Teams from each country left the workshop with clear next steps to implement the actions they developed to address gaps in their conservation strategies and monitoring plans, and conduct adaptive management moving forward.
This training was organized by The Nature Conservancy Caribbean and the Reef Resilience Network. Staff, partners, and hosts included: Meghan Gombos (Sea Change Consulting), Dr. Elizabeth Shaver (TNC Caribbean), Maxene Atis (TNC Caribbean), Yolanny Rojas (TNC Caribbean), Troy Levy (TNC Caribbean), Dr. Annick Cros (TNC/RRN), and Cherie Wagner (TNC/RRN).
This training was funded through The Nature Conservancy’s Accelerating Impact Fund (AIF#3) to the TNC Caribbean Division.
