Hawai‘i Marine Conservation & Restoration Communication Planning Workshop – Virtual, 2022
The Reef Resilience Network hosted a week-long virtual strategic communication planning workshop in March 2022 for Hawai'i marine managers and practitioners and are continuing to provide mentorship and support to help them implement their communication plans for priority projects related to reef restoration, sustainable fishing, community-based monitoring, and marine managed areas. This workshop was made possible by the NOAA Restoration Center and builds on years-long efforts to help managers and scientists from Hawai'i, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands create reef restoration plans using a guide created by the Network and partners. Restoration planning and implementation mentorship are part of the Network’s ongoing work to support U.S. coral reef sites in partnership with the U.S. All Islands Coral Reef Committee. The workshop also helped build the capacity of Hawai‘i managers to implement the State of Hawai‘i’s Holomua: Marine 30x30 Initiative.
The twelve participants used the Strategic Communication for Conservation workbook, which is a planning guide for marine managers and practitioners to build support for coral reef conservation and restoration.
