Strategic Communication for Reef Conservation Training – Hawai’i, 2025

Map of countries and territories reached with RRN training

In April 2025, the Reef Resilience Network provided training to 25 marine managers, planners, and other staff from the Hawai'i Division of Aquatic Resources. The participants, representing five islands, learned about strategic communication and strategized how to engage Hawai'i residents in the new community-centered engagement process to shape and inform the management of marine resources through the Holomua Marine Initiative.

The training was led by the Reef Resilience Network (RRN) in partnership with the Hawai'i Division of Aquatic Resources (DAR) and with support from The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Hawai'i and Palmyra. A special thank-you to our trainers and facilitators: Kristen Maize (TNC/RRN), Ann Weaver (Contractor for RRN), Evelyn Wight (TNC Hawai'i), Stacia Marcoux and Anita Tsang (Hawai'i DAR), and Jen Barrett. Funding for this training was provided through the Hawai'i Marine Program.
