Thank you to the 180+ Reef Resilience Network members who completed our annual survey! We appreciate you taking the time to share about your work and current needs and enjoyed learning more about you. Here’s a snapshot of what we learned:
The majority of survey respondents work in the Pacific, Western Indian Ocean, and the Caribbean/Atlantic, followed by the Coral Triangle, other locations, globally, and the Middle East. 77% of them who are managers state that they have learned effective management practices or applied what they learned from Network resources at their sites.
“The Reef Resilience toolkits and trainings have been very useful for me in onboarding new staff, interns and volunteers. They provide a lot of information in an organized, concise way that gets everyone on the same page quickly.”
Webinars and online trainings were ranked the most popular resources and activities that the Network provides. By the end of 2025, we will have hosted seven webinars and two mentored online courses and are planning to host more mentored courses in 2026. We also saw an uptick in popularity of article summaries, which were the least popular resource in the 2024 survey. We are happy to see that our efforts to make article summaries more accessible to our members has worked. Now we plan to do additional promotion for our Reef Exchanges podcast episodes since 53% of survey respondents weren’t aware the Network had a new podcast. We have work to do!
To guide our efforts to provide resources that meet managers’ needs, we asked which topics you would like to learn more about. You ranked monitoring and assessment, reef restoration, and MPA management as the topics of greatest interest right now. We hope you were able to participate in our mentored courses this year on reef restoration and management effectiveness. The self-paced versions will be available soon in multiple languages. Please explore the Monitoring and Assessment Toolkit and our recent webinar and podcast episode on MERMAID, a global platform for coral reef monitoring. We will continue to consider additional ways to address your need for resources related to monitoring and assessment
Thank you again to each Network member who completed the survey! We are especially grateful to everyone who took the time to share specific recommendations and stories of how the Network is helping improve effective management of reefs and critical marine areas. If you have other suggestions for the Network, please email us at resilience@tnc.org.
